Here's two very different seaside
towns, but typical of the northern Spanish coast... medieval whitewashed
buildings surrounding a cove or small bay, ancient and venerable. Blue
Mediterranean water and charming streets winding through the hills.
Sitges is only 40 minutes south of
Barcelona, on the Catalonian Coast, a destination for week-enders and the Barcelona gay
community. The town is filled with great shops and restaurants with a
long malecon or seaside promenade for strolling.
Cadaques is on the Costa Brava,
north of Barcelona. The Costa Brava stretches all the way to the border
with France and is considered to be one of Spain's premier coastlines.
We stopped at several small towns nestled in coves, saw many medieval
towns on hillsides, working farms and admired the countryside, still
relatively unchanged and peaceful. The Mediterranean waters here are an
astonishing color. |
